    Jane’s Walk to Forgotten City

Feels Empty has strongly encouraged me to do a cyberspace walk. (Frankly, I walk all over the mainland and also walk around my real life city.)  I don’t want to create yet another account on the Jane’s Walk site so I’m posting this here. I think Feels is going to maybe post this info there.

Anyway, I am choosing a place away from MU, Forgotten City. We can meet at 4:00 p.m. SLT at the Collaborate place, which I think is Maria 5.

    From the land description:

“A once great city where the prosperous residents were served by the miraculous mechanical automatons. The people have long since disappeared, but the automatons remained and still take care of the crumbling stone walls, abandoned halls and rusty fences.”

Some of you have likely heard of this place or been there. It’s worth a visit!

    Challenge for Writers

Hello again. I’ve just discovered there is an international writing challenge for may called, ‘A Story Everyday in May’. If any of you are interested 🙂 I thought perhaps Microfiction in May would be a lovely tweak, that being short fiction of 1,000 words or less – makes it easier. If anyone is interested, doesn’t have to be a campus challenge, or even shared w/ us. But a good exercise for personal/creative growth.’  🙂

    Writers Meetup

Hi writers. Let’s get together for some jazz and poetry. How about Wednesday May 6th at 1PM SLT – Tullia 1? A tentative first meeting for 45 mins or an hour and see how it goes. Anyone who wants to share work, discuss our current projects. Perhaps do some activities. Open to suggestions. In any case, I want to see your faces! So come 🙂

Z is for Zebra and Ze End

    Dear Ryan,

    Z is for Zebra

I wasn’t a fan of blogging before I started this challenge. I might have been kinda negative about them, cause everyone and their cat has a blog. Some people have many more, not that I know any of those people. o_O

I’m glad you asked me to blog with you. It was fun, hard, time consuming and rewarding. Thank you.

And although I was prepared to go another round with you in May, you need a break, so I’ll be grateful I can relax for a bit, until you decide to stop being a wuss and do another one with me. 😛

    xo Oona

Of what use is freedom of speech to those who fear to offend?

    — Roger Ebert

    • Paypabak Writer 17:24 on 29/04/2015 Permalink | Reply

“I begin to feel like most Americans don’t understand the First Amendment, don’t understand the idea of freedom of speech, and don’t understand that it’s the responsibility of the citizen to speak out.”

“Clouds do not really look like camels or sailing ships or castles in the sky. They are simply a natural process at work. So too, perhaps, are our lives.”

I loved this man. His best statement by far is:

“To make others less happy is a crime. To make ourselves unhappy is where all crime starts. We must try to contribute joy to the world. That is true no matter what our problems, our health, our circumstances. We must try. I didn’t always know this, and am happy I lived long enough to find it out.”

    Free Online Writing Course

Hi there. Elle brought this to our attention a couple of weeks ago, but I wanted to remind everyone that The Open University is offering a free creative writing course online for the month of May (it began yesterday). There are a few things to do each week (5 minute video, short paragraph to read, and writing exercises – with opportunity to post them for feedback), totaling around 3 hours. You can join or leave at any time, and aren’t compelled to finish each section if you want to jump around. I am going to give it a shot. I’m a little busy for getting into it hardcore, but I’d like to keep the creative juices flowing. If you’d like to join here is a link https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/start-writing-fiction and maybe you can share your written exercises on MU/Stories?? 😉

    • Art 06:02 on 29/04/2015 Permalink | Reply

I completed this course just before getting involved with MU. Its fantastic! And very flexible how involved you want to get. I will say that realistically I spent much more time with the course than their estimation, but I was doing all the tasks and reading/responding to other peoples work daily. Definitely an enriching experience and there are loads of other great courses too!

    • astrid 15:42 on 29/04/2015 Permalink | Reply

Awesome! Glad to hear some positive feedback from someone who has done it before!

    Dead Artists’ Jane’s Walk Sunday

Thank you Feels Empty for reminding us all that today is Yves Klein’s birthday! What a great idea to have a “Dead Artists'” walk on Sunday!

photo of the waters of Eleonora Slough with a studio door card that reads "Yves Klein"

    Yves Klein’s studio @ ES-1

Medici University is such a vibrant place filled with so many living people, meetups, and collaborations. But we are also inspired by so many artistic spirits. From our Jane Jacobs inspired campus to the Barnett Newman Broken Obelisk sculpture not far from my own studio, to Yves Klein, to our very own Provost, and even me.

Please join me in celebrating artistic spirits past and present this Sunday at 9am!

Things have realigned and the CS Time Capsule Art Party can now happen at 8am SLT at Nostradamus 9. Just in case anyone did not receive this follow-up, I will still be hanging around Nostradamus 9 at 7amSLT making shady deals. But the official time of the Time Capsule Party will be 8am SLT. Little Lost Prims :(

Did you know that sometimes objects go floating away?  Get lost, missing etc?  I walk around campus a lot cause its my job and cause its great here.  And I notice a lot of art debris that maybe you don’t know is there!  Its amusing really when you find a couch where it clearly was never meant to be.  😉

So since I’m walking around anyway I thought I’d call you all up and let you know I found some of  your little lost prims so you can come find them.  Poor little prims.  😛

Alternatively if you have Firestorm, you can do an Area Search.  If thats all too complicated the basics are this: click on World, then Area Search, then the Find tab.  Enter your sign in name in the Owner box and hit Search.  Some stuff you may need to walk around to find, because sometimes it takes longer to find stray things far far away.  But the basics are, it will list ALL your stuff on the sim (if you give it long enough and its behaving.)

This is a great way to find out how many sims you are using, without manually adding on fingers.  Just select all those listed items in the List window, right click and choose edit and it will tabulate how many collected prims that is.

Be sure not to do any editing in that window if you do that, just close it and go on your way.

By anyway.  The poor little lost prims I’ve noticed I’ll list by nearest location.  And I’m not prim shaming!  This is just environmental clean up!  If the stuff I list is actually art, just disregard, what do I know anyway.  😛

Hmmm……for some of us who are living lives that are tragic and weirder than a mythology people might construct, this sort of playing to an audience doesn’t hold much interest unless it’s highly useful to our own real journeys.

The time for the Café Sophistry Time Capsule Art Party this Sunday 4/26 has been changed from 8am SLT to 7am SLT. The circumstances were unavoidable and I hope very much that you can still make it. I think we will have a lot of fun seeing what people did for the Time Capsule Art Party.

    BAOC Award to Elle Thorkveld

    elle_baoc_1

I choose Elle Thorkveld as the next BAOC Award recipient. Elle has done tai chi at the dojo with me, has an amazing entry in the Cyberart contest at LEA 12, has been involved in GIMP classes, has written for my storyboard projects and now is assisting with the proposal to continue the spirit of Medici University in some form. She gives encouraging words to others and has participated in many projects, events and parties at MU.
Even with her talent and skills, she’s made time to give positive feedback for my efforts and this is what has made her stand out from many talented and productive learners. Not only has she been supportive in public forums such as this but she’s also been quietly welcoming and interested in how I’m doing on campus.
I’m rather in awe of her focus, consistency, ability to appear centered while stretching in different directions even more than she’d planned and juggling many things with apparent grace. For these reasons, and more on other levels, I’ve drawn a compass for her and added it to the award.
    Congratulations Elle!
