    MU Machinima on youtube?

I’ve found a way to get videos to play from youtube without them kicking over to some random next video.

    http://machinimasl.blogspot.com/2014/11/making-your-own-theater.html

Using this method, we could start a MU youtube channel, upload our videos to it, and have them cycle through a stand sl media player.

Have we considered this? Is there a MU youtube channel out there, already?

I can still play videos from other urls, such as vimeo, if you don’t want to upload to youtube. It just occurred to me a youtube channel might be worthwhile.

I’ve added Alex’s video in Veyot’s post, below, to the media player in MUGA.

      Hi Myra,

No idea if there is an MU channel. Thank you for posting what you found out about the youtube playlists, I’m going to try it out! Maybe it would be easier to just set up an MU playlist? I believe you can add other people’s videos to one.

    Campus Tour

I shot a little video today from the passenger seat of Claire Namiboo’s Campus Shuttle. It’s a nice peek at some of the studios on campus on 24 May ’15. Thanks to Claire & Snowflake & all the artists!

    * Soundtrack: Love Is by Snowflake & Patronski
    * “Neko Rail” transport & path by Claire Namiboo
    * Medici University campus design by over 6 dozen participating artists.

    Personal Mythology

Our boy Hennessy Youngman breaks down the concept of Personal Mythology for us:

Do you have a personal mythology Ryan? Love Hennessy Youngman, always so amusing. <3

    • Pearl Grey 15:05 on 26/04/2015 Permalink | Reply

Hmmm……for some of us who are living lives that are tragic and weirder than a mythology people might construct, this sort of playing to an audience doesn’t hold much interest unless it’s highly useful to our own real journeys.

    Sal Khan

I wanted to share this inspiring talk by Sal Khan. It’s a great talk in general and he shares so many of our values at MU. Note especially when he talks about empowering the learner to choose their own goals. That’s the core of our philosophy.

    Andrea Foenander

Michael’s invited Andrea Foenander to join us on Monday! Here’s the talk she gave at EZTV in April!

She’s got a lot of compelling ideas as well as an exciting upcoming project to tell us about. Ideas like

How would contemporary culture & art historical discourse be different if Charles Saatchi liked riding a bicycle through a virtual landscape instead of plopping formaldehyde sharks on gallery floors?

Michael has asked similar questions when he’s talked about all that art history has failed to include in recent times. For myself, I’ve felt that work with Virtual Reality & Virtual Worlds has existed in a space separate from the object production & commodity culture of the main art historical narrative.

An event like Burning Man exists largely off the art historical grid. It’s not much talked about in museums, galleries, art fairs. Yeah it’s had impact in so many ways, including inspiring Philip Rosedale to create his Virtual World. Famously, one of the key reasons Larry Page & Sergey Brin allowed Eric Schmidt to be CEO of Google, was because he’d been to Burning Man.

Does New Media want/need validation from Old Media? Or does it create its own independent cultural narratives?

Octopus-bike-bike not showing up for me either though it gives the illusion of display before posting in Safari whereas in Chrome the emoji display only as empty rectangles…Mysterious…

            • Vanessa Blaylock 23:05 on 24/07/2014 Permalink

IDK… maybe it’s something about the text formatting of .Re/act’s “theme”… try Twitter! Works great there… I’ve sort of started my own Emoji only campaign on Twitter. Or, of course, anything on your mobile!

              Hope 2CU on Emoj.li soon! 🙂

Andrea’s talk was very Interesting! Unfortunately the audio was pretty hard to hear: I think it might have been a combination of speakers not being that close to the microphone in a boomy room, multiplied by massive Google Hangout audio compression & audio artifacts. When it’s a “broadcast” more than a “Hangout / Chat” maybe we should try something like Ustream and see if it’s any clearer / less compressed. For some reason, perhaps mic proximity or vocal characteristics, whenever Michael spoke he was the 1 person that way crystal clear! 😀

I’m dashing out of the studio ATM, but here’s 3 interesting points Michael raised, and I’ll comment about them later in the day:

      1. Siggraph as “trade show”
      2. Archival issues in new media
      3. Who transcends new media to become historically important

Thanks so much for streaming Andrea’s talk!
