Generatives, glitch, and gifs MUGA opening

The Generatives, glitch, and gifs opening was held on Friday, June 5th. It was a nice event and there was a good turnout. The artists talked about their work and it was an opportunity for others on the campus and off to meet them.

Thank you everyone who helped with this event, loaned their work to the aspiring gallery, and attended this event. A special thanks to the artists – Pearl Grey, FeelsEmpty, Elle Thorkveld, and Michael Green – and to Oona for building the gallery.

The show will run through June 15. Please stop by if you haven’t had a chance to see the show. After that, I’ll try to do one last show, probably machinima.

Here are some pics from the event:

Great article Myra 🙂 The show was a great success I think. I’ll be sad when June ends, I love MUGA a lot.

Great write up & love the pics, Myra. It was a fun opening, thanks to my fellow artists and all who attended for making it that way! And thank you to Myra for curating & facilitating this exhibit and to Oona for all her gallery building. Excellent work.

I recall participating on one of Feels Empty’s Step Art creations. Fun! Great exhibit.

Thank you so much, Marie. So many people made this happen – Elle, Feels, Oona, Michael, Pearl. I was thrilled it turned out as well as it did.

Hi! How were you able to put gif animation in the second Life?

    • Art 05:48 on 07/04/2015 Permalink | Reply

Great things said here Paypa! MU really is bursting at the seams with activity and I havent seen THIS much going on anywhere else at LEA, as wonderdul as they are (and as a side note it really is fantastic to be involved with an LEA sim so up close after years of being a fan). These six months are a bit of an experimental frenzy and by June a grant would harness the results just as the active crowd have found their stride.. Loving MU in all its creative madness!

“I would love to see one of the big educational groups in SL take a look at the “business model” MU has set forth and adopt it. Hell, one of them ought to extend the grant. Izzy may have already made reservations for her nervous breakdown in July (I know I have!), but that shouldn’t stop things from making MU a permanent fixture in SL.”

YES! This place is amazing, and i think it should be a permanent thing as well. Perhaps we should have a letter writing campaign. 🙂 I too don’t even wanna think about when this all goes away. I came here not really knowing what to think. Now I’m creating and having the best time. That’s pretty amazing for self serve education.

Alex, FeelsEmpty would know more about the GIFs. I’ve seen such things in SL for several years, but not as sophisticated as FE’s panels.

Art and Oona, between the creativity and making new friends, MU is truly the kind of thing the LEA finds justification in its mission.

    Animated GIFs on a Prim?

FeelsEmpty Resident came to crit class tonight. They’re making cool animated GIFs!
    http://newhive.com/metypeself/family

And would like to put them in SL. Feels is totally new to prims and stuff.

Here’s a 2008 post on how to do it:

    Here’s a 2010 post:

Feels might come by tomorrow, Thursday. If anyone can help them get stuff on a prim that’d be so cool. He can work at Collaborateopolis for now. (I can find him space if he wants to rez a bunch)

Here’s another good page. I sent it to feelsempty.

Thanks Veyot! I found that page also, but didn’t like it because it’s media on a prim. Media on a prim is cool, and in fact the MU Schedule Kiosks use it, but many viewers won’t let it autostart, and it can be sluggish to load, so I think it won’t be satisfying at all the way FeelsEmpty’s web page is.

I guess even with the texture animation there will still be SL texture load times to deal with, so Feels’ installation will probably never load as fast as the web page, but at least you won’t have to click every face and give it permission to run.

Feels got it to work and it’s really cool… Natsu helped him… sounds like they may have done it a different way… I’m trying to get them to do a little post on how they did it
