New “Add Media” button here on MU Talk!

Short & to the point version

Howdy all! We have a new Add Media button that you’ll notice in the upper-right of the text entry box. With the previous version of MU/T you could do everything right here on the frontend, except add a picture! πŸ˜› Who ever wants to do that??? πŸ™

    Enjoy!

Long, Boring Version (TMI / TLDR;)

    read more if you dare…

    testing 1, 2, 3…

    • Vanessa 16:08 on 26/03/2017 Permalink | Reply

Hi ETS, I’m experiencing this too! πŸ™

Maybe it’s related to some new bug in our Houston theme?
As in “Houston, we’ve got a problem” πŸ˜›
      Or maybe a plugin.
      Or both.
      Looking into it…

      • Vanessa 16:27 on 26/03/2017 Permalink | Reply

I tried switching MU/Talk from “Houston” to “P2” and I think the issue went away. I’ll do some more testing and maybe install a Houston alternative.

If anybody else experiences this Login – Logout – Login – Logout issue where it seems to log you out or you can’t post or it says Trouble connecting with the server, LMK!

      • Elizabeth Taylor Swift 16:33 on 26/03/2017 Permalink | Reply

It seems like P2 is working 4 me 2.

    Creative Commons License 4UR Flickr?

I was surfing through the Medici University photo group on Flickr, looking for images to use with a new post in Astrid’s April A-2-Z Challenge, and was disappointed to discover that the majority of photos there are “Β© All Rights Reserved” and can’t be used by anyone for anything. πŸ™

I realize a lot of MU Learners are very controlling (ha! It’s like D/s University around here!) but it also occurred to me that some MU peeps might simply not know that Flickr defaults to Β©ARR and that it’s so easy to set it for a creative commons sharing license under the terms of your choice. I’ll show you the how first and then say a bit about the why at bottom.

You can go straight to your “Default License” settings here:

Ryan, it’s probably less about being controlling and more about All Rights Reserved being the default setting.

Thanks for the information. I’ll try to set my rights to an appropriate level as soon as I can.

    • Neeva 00:06 on 21/04/2015 Permalink | Reply

I notice that the pictures uploaded to Flickr directly from the firestorm viewer default to all rights reserved. Anyone have experience changing this?

And btw, any MU learner has my permission to use my pictures that are in the MU Flickr group for MU-related projects. Don’t worry about the copyright notice cuz I hereby grant you permission. I do think it’s extra awesome if you contact me and tell me about the project.

Hi guys! Here’s a few tips for things you can do here on MU/Talk:

Thanks for this Xue. Handy info. I’ll try to update my profile and get a Gravatar pic up tonight.

    • Pearl Grey 19:26 on 31/03/2015 Permalink | Reply

I’ve tried to link my MU blog in my profile five or six times now. I started yesterday and thought it might take a while to show up. I see the URL in the field and the “profile updated” but my previous comments look the same.

    • Pearl Grey 19:28 on 31/03/2015 Permalink | Reply

Oh I see; it will show up moving forward.

      • Xue 22:44 on 31/03/2015 Permalink | Reply

OIC Pearl, IDK that myself! πŸ˜€

So all new comments are good, then? But the older ones are “already baked” with the old info?

LMK if you have questions or if anything else comes up.

        Happy Wednesday!

    Gravatar!

psst… if anybody’d like a cool photo icon instead of those blue, sideways “G” thingys, it’s super easy!

    Just drop by
    http://gravatar.com

Make a free account with the same email that you signed up on MU/Talk with, paste a photo there, and voila! Your awesome mug will populate all your stuff over here!

    • Myra 19:39 on 24/03/2015 Permalink | Reply

You can also get your gravitar icon through wordpress.com when you register on their site. You get a freebie blog, there, when you do, so it’s an option worth considering.

If your privacy is an issue – blogs often log IP addresses – consider trying CyberGhost. It’s free and mixes up your IP address for you.

      • Xue 18:05 on 27/03/2015 Permalink | Reply

Yes Myra! Going to Gravatar or WP.com is more-or-less the same thing. (they’re both from Automattic) either way will get you the same thing.

If you only want an Icon, just go to Gravatar. You can always have a blog at any time later, still free & easy.

If you’d like a blog, as Myra said, you can go to WP.com and do both. And of course, you can sign up for a free blog without any obligation to use it! :+]

    Honeypot

Just a geek moment here – when you have Open Registration as we do here on MU/Talk, after a couple of days, the spambots find you and you’re flooded with bad registrations and spam posts. We’ve installed a “honeypot” that’s designed to block those registrations and it does block most of them. But some get through. So we manually delete those. If you register and find yourself unregistered the next day, just message Izzy or myself and we’ll fix that. Sorry for geek speak! And TY for your participation!

    Need Any Help?

portrait of Xue Faith in greenish-yellowish false color acid tones and mounted in a museum matte

Hello all, I’m the webmaster here for Medici University & MU/Talk. I’m also a college student at King’s College in London, so I’m definitely not a pro, but if you have any website questions or need any help with anything, I’ll try my best.

    Go MU!

      Hello, Xue
I’m experimenting with web design and I have some very unusual pages. You can see how my web design is pleasant?

      • Izzy 13:50 on 27/01/2015 Permalink | Reply

Hello Alexandre, is there a link or URL to see your experiments?

    • AlexandreLois1 14:59 on 27/01/2015 Permalink | Reply

I do not give these links open viewing. I can give only privately in the world.

Thank you for taking on this important role. I have submitted a faculty application, however I noticed that in Google Chrome on Mac OSx, the application form seemed to just reload on submit. I’m not certain as to whether my inquiry was received. Sorry for the customer service annoyance, but I think i’m directing this to the right expert.

      • Xue 00:30 on 29/01/2015 Permalink | Reply

Hi Newton. So sorry about that! Did you restart Chrome & restart your Mac? That often helps! We use “Ninja Forms” which seems to work pretty well. I can try it out on Mac/Chrome tomorrow and see if I can replicate whatever happened for you. Did you try Safari?

We did receive a Staff application from, perhaps your sister, just fine. But sadly, I don’t see a Faculty application from you in the cue at this time. Keep me posted and I’ll see what I can sort out on this end!

        TY / Sorry!

Thank you for your speedy response in this matter. Your answer regarding having not received it is tremendously helpful and I shall submit it anew in a different browser, posthaste. All the Best.
