BAOC awarded to Muse
Hmm.. so it’s friday.. right? Last friday i came back from my stay elsewhere and went for a ‘just quick look for a little while’ Those quick little while’s never happen tho but that aside. Felt very warmly welcomed by a lot of mu people. Its amazing how MU keeps changing and developing, like a living creature. If you look around after 7 weeks not seeing with your own eyes it’s very notable.
Just when i was going to sleep Izzy put on a song on her screen from an artist who will remain nameless for now , and of course i had had had to go look 9___9.. after some dancing she rendered me speechless by saying BAOC and trowing the classical primcube trophy on the floor for me to take.
While i’m honored and kinda proud in this weird way i actually thought for a sec about not taking it. Since the start of MU there have been some many thing going on, so many people doing all these cool and mindtickling things.. its almost unfair to pick one out. But at the same time the only reason i took it is because the privilege of receiving this BOAC thing is you get to choose someone to give it to.. well and leaving your mark on that primcube, less important but also fun do.. Kinda checked immediately if the person that i thought of didn’t already got it.. and no yet, so my luck 🙂In rl i enjoy quotes from people.. it’s full of things for me to think about. In SL i like mesh, light, details, machine things, power chords, whatevers.. Combined made me make a neon lettered quote on the trophy which i’m fond of and in a way applies to a lot what is happening on MU.
Art is anything you can get away with.
~Marshall McLuhanI will pass it on to someone who started a while in after MU’s start, her studio being across the street of mine. At the beginning a lot of the time when i was at my place, i saw her standing being busy or muttering around a bit. Also waving back for a friendly chitchat when i or people wandered by. After some time i began to see her at almost every class i went, diligently participating and seeing more and more of things she seemed to have taken in back in her work. When returning after my 7 weeks staring at MU’s site and flickr, where she adds quite an amount of pictures, i suddenly saw this huge leap, even in appearance.
So dear muse. i’m giving this week’s BAOC to you. Its because i think you took the opportunity that MU gives.. or maybe even grabbed with both hands and try to learn everything what you found to be interesting. I heard you saying sometimes you weren’t always happy with the results but i noticed that didn’t got you down, kept going on trying to improve yourself for the better. Yesterday even.. when i half uninspired lazy asked if you were going to critics class, you cheerfully said ‘of course.. i go every week’ which did made me decide to come too. You had to show something too. A painting you made after a class assignment that you felt had some restrictions so you made another just because.. you really seem to enjoy yourself and do things out of your own for yourself. You are open about what you’re doing, what you are learning or have learned, sometimes even vulnerable, which i admire immensely. You inspire me to keep enjoying learning, school myself and ‘keep doing’ as you said yourself so very strikingly.
I think you can be very proud of yourself for the sweet and earnest MU student you are, i am and very happy to congratulate you for being this week’s BAOC.-

Ziki Questi and the Turing Test
A new, hopefully interesting article in MU/Creativity about MU’s own photographer, Ziki Questi and how she challenges our ideas of what is real. As a bonus, there’s even a link to Alan Turing’s original paper proposing his famous test.

AlexLois gave a concert at Medici on Sunday. Apmel wrote about it and made a video,
http://apmel.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-electro-evocative-glitch-music-of.html
And I made a video too. Neither of us was ready with our camera fast enough. We missed the first two spectacular effects, a flying pegasus, and blue letters falling from the sky.

Awesome Veyot! TY!!!
BTW, Apmel’s done a number of posts on activities at MU:

New Prim Limits!
Happy June everyone! We’ve got 1 month left at LEA23 and I’m happy to report that we’re in great shape with prims.
When we started the per studio prim limit was 150-ish. About a month ago I raised it to 200-ish. The new prim limit for our final month at LEA23 is that there is no prim limit!
Seriously!
• Try a crazy new sculpture!
• Rez another fancy chair!
• Put out the jacuzzi and hang out w classmates!USE THOSE PRIMS!

BAOC Awarded to Emma Maybe!
Last week’s BAOC Award Winner, Alexandre Lois declined to award someone new, so I’ve restarted it today, appropriately enough on Emma’s return to campus! Emma has a brand new trophy, made of the finest plywood and sanded to a perfect .5 x .5 x .5 meters.
On campus Emma has been a true Big Avatar On Campus, always greeting and engaging so many people. Always taking an interest and sharing genuine concern for campus colleagues. Awesome as Emma’s on campus contributions have been, her extended vacation has almost been more remarkable. Off on a long 6-week, SL-free trip, she’s used Slack (and hacked poor Slackbot with Rick Astley!) to remain a vital part of our campus conversation. Emma’s desire to be a part of this community has transcended even 6 weeks off-world. You can’t ask for more than that. You can’t dream of more than that.
Welcome Home, Emma!
Congratulations!

Therapy Shmareapy…..
Something happened. But isnt that life? Things happen. Life happens.
My therapist says I compartmentalize too much. Lock my true feelings away in little compartments….boxes. I box myself in. I say therapy…..shmareapy. You can visit my studio area and pick a door. Behind every door is me. Holed in a box. But you can only see what I want you to see. Im not that closed off. I dont think I am at least.
-
Vanessa
I thought I was the only one who wrote on the internet about visits to my therapist… Hope all is well xx
-
Myra
Hi, Glad. I love it. I went to see this at the school after your post. To me, It feels sterile and slightly disturbing. I hope your mind isn’t like that. Maybe that’s my mind projecting (<– therapy term). 😀
Love the work. Thanks : )

Elle
Late to view this, but I really love it. Great images in the boxes.

It’s not a mesh vs prims issue. Secondlife needs to update its building tools so you can create mesh in-world.

New Campus TP Policy
I had a nice chat with Elle today about how our campus policies make it difficult for learners with different needs to get around.
I explained that No Fly, No Skyboxes, No Point-2-Point TP were all intended to make us walk around more and see what different learners on campus are working on. To help create community.
We reached a sort of compromise that maybe No-Fly and No-Skyboxes aren’t really so problematic, but that if people who had different hand or vision circumstances could direct TP to places, it’d make campus navigation a lot easier.
Direct Point-2-Point TP is now enabled in all 4 parcels of MU. LMK if you have any trouble with it. And I’d still encourage you to walk around and see the work!
-
Paypabak Writer
This is a good move. I think many of us who are used to walking about will continue to do so, although it will be nice if there’s a class and people are late to have that ability to tp to the spot.
-
Zsophia Innovia
I agree. Some times I have gotten lost or my computer got slow as mud for a bit. Being able to have point to point at those times will be nice walking about also is good I love that. This allows for all of it.

Thank you, Izzy! 🙂

A Few Good Reasons to Drop Out of Art School
I first saw this article in Art News and now the New Yorker has picked it up.
I think there is an interesting thru-line here with the whole notion of getting a free art education at M.U. and collaborative teaching and learning.
“On Friday, the first-year students in the Roski School of Art and Design M.F.A. program announced that they were all dropping out. “All,” in this case, meant seven students: a small number, but, given the difficulty of getting students or artists to do anything together, the action was a feat of organization and solidarity. It was also a brave gesture—not heroic, maybe, but one made at a personal cost and resonant with the larger situation in art right now.”

Interesting article, rmarie. Brave of the students. They could always join MU!

CREATIVE SAFARI TOMORROW
MAY 26, 11 AMJoin a creative excursion to two beautiful sims by Mistero Hifeng. We’ll meet at LEA 29 and walk from one haunting statue to the next. We can choose our favorites, discuss sim design, windlight and mood. Mistero Hifeng has given us some notes explaining his work. We can take snapshots to hang in the MU gallery or port to MU Fine Arts group on Flickr. I have already posted some on Tumblr.
When I go wild taking snapshots at a beautiful sim, I usually save them to disk and make a video for myself, using Fraps and Windows Movie Maker. I just drop the snapshots in, set time for 3 seconds, click automatic pan and zoom, and bingo. I have a movie. Well, its really a slideshow, but the panning and zooming makes it more interesting.
Have you tried the new snapshot filters on the viewer? I don’t do much photoshopping other than cropping, so the new filters are really useful. I hope we can share photography tips tomorrow. If you can’t go at that time, just search for LEA29 on the world map and drop into the beautiful landscape.
