Last week’s BAOC Award Winner, Alexandre Lois declined to award someone new, so I’ve restarted it today, appropriately enough on Emma’s return to campus! Emma has a brand new trophy, made of the finest plywood and sanded to a perfect .5 x .5 x .5 meters.
On campus Emma has been a true Big Avatar On Campus, always greeting and engaging so many people. Always taking an interest and sharing genuine concern for campus colleagues. Awesome as Emma’s on campus contributions have been, her extended vacation has almost been more remarkable. Off on a long 6-week, SL-free trip, she’s used Slack (and hacked poor Slackbot with Rick Astley!) to remain a vital part of our campus conversation. Emma’s desire to be a part of this community has transcended even 6 weeks off-world. You can’t ask for more than that. You can’t dream of more than that.
Welcome Home, Emma!
Congratulations!
Congratulations, Emma. It’s so good to have you back.
Congratulations, Emma! Welcome back.
Good to have you back Emma. Congratulations 🙂
Yay Emma! So glad you are back on campus again.
Something happened. But isnt that life? Things happen. Life happens.
My therapist says I compartmentalize too much. Lock my true feelings away in little compartments….boxes. I box myself in. I say therapy…..shmareapy. You can visit my studio area and pick a door. Behind every door is me. Holed in a box. But you can only see what I want you to see. Im not that closed off. I dont think I am at least.
I thought I was the only one who wrote on the internet about visits to my therapist… Hope all is well xx
Hi, Glad. I love it. I went to see this at the school after your post. To me, It feels sterile and slightly disturbing. I hope your mind isn’t like that. Maybe that’s my mind projecting (<– therapy term). 😀
Love the work. Thanks : )
Late to view this, but I really love it. Great images in the boxes.
Hi guys, I’ve submitted an LEA proposal for Round 9:
Wish me luck!
Nice! Good luck, Edie!
I love this proposal! Good luck!
gl, edie. I think the announcement is soon.

Nice post, Izzy! You write delicious prose.
aww, thankies Neeva! You stack delicious prims.
It’s not a mesh vs prims issue. Secondlife needs to update its building tools so you can create mesh in-world.
I had a nice chat with Elle today about how our campus policies make it difficult for learners with different needs to get around.
I explained that No Fly, No Skyboxes, No Point-2-Point TP were all intended to make us walk around more and see what different learners on campus are working on. To help create community.
We reached a sort of compromise that maybe No-Fly and No-Skyboxes aren’t really so problematic, but that if people who had different hand or vision circumstances could direct TP to places, it’d make campus navigation a lot easier.
Direct Point-2-Point TP is now enabled in all 4 parcels of MU. LMK if you have any trouble with it. And I’d still encourage you to walk around and see the work!
This is a good move. I think many of us who are used to walking about will continue to do so, although it will be nice if there’s a class and people are late to have that ability to tp to the spot.
I agree. Some times I have gotten lost or my computer got slow as mud for a bit. Being able to have point to point at those times will be nice walking about also is good I love that. This allows for all of it.
Thank you, Izzy! 🙂
direct Tp – what a great idea. Thank you.
I first saw this article in Art News and now the New Yorker has picked it up.
I think there is an interesting thru-line here with the whole notion of getting a free art education at M.U. and collaborative teaching and learning.
“On Friday, the first-year students in the Roski School of Art and Design M.F.A. program announced that they were all dropping out. “All,” in this case, meant seven students: a small number, but, given the difficulty of getting students or artists to do anything together, the action was a feat of organization and solidarity. It was also a brave gesture—not heroic, maybe, but one made at a personal cost and resonant with the larger situation in art right now.”
Interesting article, rmarie. Brave of the students. They could always join MU!
We had a good trip to visit Mistero Hifeng’s beautiful sims. Elle, Pearl, Art, and Alex were there. I made a quick video with some snapshots. If I can get this link right, maybe you can see it.
Thanks Veyot – lovely documentary! I hope you can share it with MH too. This is a neat format for viewing and getting inspired by all artwork on the grid.
Thanks for organizing the tour Veyot, and for the machinima tips. I enjoy watching this video.
And how great that Mistero Hifeng wonderfully answered the questions we had for him.
Lovely video, Veyot! Thanks so much for the fun tour and thanks to Mistero for the amazing sim and taking the time to answer our questions.
Small concert
On Sunday, May 31 at 1 pm SLT, I’ll give a small concert. Come Tullia 3.
Fantastic Alex! Can’t wait!! 🙂
Like Drag Queens, Native Americans, Abuse Survivors, Bloggers, and way too many Avatars, you can now add me to the list of people Facebook has banned because they don’t like my name.
Goodbye Facebook. You will not be missed.
Pssst! Hope you all can come with us to visit Mistero Hifeng’s beautiful sims. At 11 AM SL time today.

performance art
I’ve been doing performance art and found a lot of amazing things. People are also interested in this kind of art?
Part 2 of the last section of Café Sophistry – “Popcorn Tears or Finding Virtual Forgiveness – happened on Sunday, May 24. Participants from part 1 enjoyed each others’ work and resumed our reflections from last week. Please stop by Nostradamus 9 to view their work “in person,” and you can see Serra’s pieces at her MU studio, located at Maria 15. Thank you to all participants:
This was a great class. i really enjoy these. So great to see so many different perspectives.
CREATIVE SAFARI TOMORROW
MAY 26, 11 AM
Join a creative excursion to two beautiful sims by Mistero Hifeng. We’ll meet at LEA 29 and walk from one haunting statue to the next. We can choose our favorites, discuss sim design, windlight and mood. Mistero Hifeng has given us some notes explaining his work. We can take snapshots to hang in the MU gallery or port to MU Fine Arts group on Flickr. I have already posted some on Tumblr.
When I go wild taking snapshots at a beautiful sim, I usually save them to disk and make a video for myself, using Fraps and Windows Movie Maker. I just drop the snapshots in, set time for 3 seconds, click automatic pan and zoom, and bingo. I have a movie. Well, its really a slideshow, but the panning and zooming makes it more interesting.
Have you tried the new snapshot filters on the viewer? I don’t do much photoshopping other than cropping, so the new filters are really useful. I hope we can share photography tips tomorrow. If you can’t go at that time, just search for LEA29 on the world map and drop into the beautiful landscape.
This will be a wonderful field trip Veyot. Thank you for leading it. I love your photographs and the content of the Q/A.
Great field trip idea Veyot! Is this 11am slt?
Yes, that’s 11 SL time.
Introducing a new course… Expressing Emotion through Art.

It is aimed on how you will express your emotions, and maybe even offer different perspectives in how to show them.

Wonderful concept Jade – this should be inspirational!
looking forard to it on the calendar in bright ink
I hope this gets really interesting!!! Looking forward to seeing you all there!
Super exciting Jade!! Unfortunately I can’t make that time slot, so I’ll have to suffice with blog posts & flickr pix of the class.
I hope you have a great turn-out tomorrow night. It’s a wonderful course! Wishing you and all participants a fantastic experience!
I shot a little video today from the passenger seat of Claire Namiboo’s Campus Shuttle. It’s a nice peek at some of the studios on campus on 24 May ’15. Thanks to Claire & Snowflake & all the artists!
* Soundtrack: Love Is by Snowflake & Patronski
* “Neko Rail” transport & path by Claire Namiboo
* Medici University campus design by over 6 dozen participating artists.
Fanny was shaking her butt at you while you passed 😛
Sweet machinima, Izzy. I think Claire’s Neko Rail is great.

Our Life Drawing course is a great sketching class for all levels of drawing. If you are an experienced artist, this is a great way to keep that hand conditioned, as it is a live drawing class. Notes can be given to provide information on how to draw for those that are less experienced. If you have any questions, please contact Jade Ravenheart (Cynn Blackrain).
Location: Tulia- 9
http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/LEA23/133/18/36
Additional notes: This is a class with nude models. You will see some “no no’s” body parts. You have been warned O_O
Also, Oona has put up a Drawing & Painting Gallery at Aurelia-7 for our 2 drawing classes, This Life Drawing class and also Van’s Drinking & Drawing class. Maybe toward the end of class you might go over and rez some work!?
Oh yes i rezzed some of my work on there for now. Will be hoping to see more up there soon! Thank you for the reminder!
Art Oluja and I have enjoyed collaborating to bring you the new (and final) Story Boards and the invitation to submit your writing.
Fantastic you guys! Congratulations & thanks for doing this! Can’t wait to see the results!!
Thanks Ryan was loads of fun 🙂
This week I’m passing the Big Avatar on Campus award on to Alexandre. Alexandre is one of MU’s greatest contributors and most prolific artists. He is active on the blog, on campus, and he is a very diverse and talented artist.
If I had to say one thing about his art – and there’s lots to say – I’d say his art always makes me think, it makes me reconsider the world through his eyes. I love that. And his music is cool.
Congratulations, Alexandre.
On a side note, I broke the award. I really couldn’t link my addition to it, but it’s on Alexandre’s studio, now. Sorry about that, Hope someone can fix it.
Congratulations Alexandre!
Myra, I very much agree, he is a diverse and talented artist who makes cool music and is always willing to share very novel and interesting information. Congratulations Alexandre!
Congratulations Alex! It’s been so great to have you be a part of the campus community. Thank you for your contributions in-world, here on MU/Talk, etc!
Great pick. Thank you Alexandre for your many contributions to our community.
Ooooh, my friends, you surprised me with this award. I did not expect. Thanks to all.
Apparently we have too many MU websites! (IKR, I, Izzy, am an overblogger. Guilty!)
In an effort to make easy access to all of this content, I’ve indexed everything MU on Pinterest. Except for this MU/Talk part, which is 262 posts and too daunting!
Sadly, Pinterest forces you to make a (free) account to view the content. Lame, I know. But if you already have a Pinterest, or don’t mind signing up for one more thing, the index might be helpful. I hope so! LMK!
What an organizer you are! That’s a useful way to find things we’ve overlooked.
I have a an account with about 2,600 pins of mostly decayed architecture. https://www.pinterest.com/wrenalcyone/
/me stifles an insane oxymoron-inspired grin.

This is a great example of well-presented documentation and I enjoyed reading it.
In Berlin Tacheles squat sold
People gathered and made well-known art center. The owners sold the building for 38 million euros, and all the artists were expelled. I hope this will not suffer the fate of MU

They need Izzy to fix their website.
